EDUCATIONAL FACILITY MASTER PLAN / AN INTRODUCTION
Recent legislation by the United States Congress has provided funds to cover not only disaster-related damages due to 2017 Hurricanes Irma and Maria, but also funding to achieve current industry standards for the educational facilities occupied by the Virgin Islands Department of Education (VIDE). This includes nearly all instructional and supporting facilities, totaling prior to the hurricanes, nearly three million square feet on all three islands.

This legislation creates unprecedented opportunity to change the footprint of education in the United States Virgin Islands. To guide this process, the VIDE is developing an Educational Facility Master Plan.

The VIDE has developed this website as a platform by which to engage the
US Virgin Islands public school community.

The Virgin Islands Department of Education embraces ALL students and empowers them to achieve their fullest potential.

The VIDE Educational Facility Master Plan was completed on June 30, 2020.
Across all three islands, there are 32 existing educational facility sites. The Educational Facility Master Plan significantly reduces the number of sites to 18. The framework, outlined in the Master Plan, for the targeted scope, schedule, and sequence of events has identified a five-year process to complete the 18 educational facilities in a timely manner. The Master Plan was developed so that it can be adjusted to a high and low funding approach that equitably addresses the six new builds, 12 modernizations/expansions, and support structures defined in the plan.

One year into this five-year process, a great deal has been accomplished.
A detailed summary of the design/documentation process, to date, is outlined in the image/PDF file linked below.
